Owning a dog is a massive commitment, and that commitment starts when you go to the pet shop and buy a puppy. Choosing a puppy purely based on its “waggly tail” is probably not a good idea, and instead you should be a bit more careful and conscientious when choosing your new dog.

Whether your dog will trigger allergies or not is obviously a very important thing to consider. There are also things to consider in regards to the behaviour and temperament of your dog. True, you can tell little about the behaviour of a puppy, however it is worth speaking to your pet shop to get an idea of temperament.
A dog is for life not just for Christmas, and so when choosing a new puppy for your home think very carefully, you owe it to yourself and your new dog!
